Navigating the Skill, Will, and Hill
Activity:
Objective: This activity aims to help individuals or teams assess and reflect on their skills, motivation (will), and current challenges (hill) to foster personal development and teamwork.
Duration: 30 minutes
Materials Required:
• Pens and paper for each participant
• Whiteboard and markers (for team sessions)
• Skill, Will, and Hill Reflection Worksheets (optional)
Activity Outline:
Introduction (5 minutes)
Briefly introduce the concepts:
• Skill: What abilities or expertise do you or your team possess?
• Will: What is your level of motivation or enthusiasm towards your tasks?
• Hill: What are the obstacles or challenges you or your team are currently facing?
2. Individual Reflection (10 minutes)
Ask each participant to reflect on their personal Skill, Will, and Hill. Provide these guiding questions:
• Skill: What are my strongest skills? What skills require improvement?
• Will: What drives my motivation? What factors dampen it?
• Hill: What obstacles am I facing that impede my progress?
3. Group Discussion (10 minutes)
In teams, encourage participants to share their reflections. Discuss how to optimize collective skills, boost motivation, and devise strategies to overcome shared challenges.
• Focus on identifying common themes and differences in individual reflections.
4. Action Plan Creation (5 minutes)
Based on the discussion, guide participants to outline specific actions they can take individually and as a team to:
• Enhance skills
• Increase motivation
• Overcome challenges
Debrief (Optional):
Conclude with a short debriefing session where participants can express their thoughts about the exercise and articulate how they intend to apply what they’ve learned.
Follow-Up:
Schedule a follow-up session in a few weeks to review progress on the action plans and adjust as necessary.
